Looking aptly like a medical student on the cover, why does Patrick Wolf fail to hit the spot with 'Accident & Emergency'? Perhaps it's down to the fact that even at high volume, the newly red-haired singer's voice is drowned out by the music; only a few lines making it past the ferocity of everything from a violin to a police car. This renders it about as enjoyable as listening to Boney M at a rave: not very enjoyable at all.
It's a shame, Patrick has considerable talent, but it seems to be missing from this track, suffering from 'a bit too much of everything'. Be it the bongs, the bangs or the wailing of sirens, this track has it all. Who was it that said 'less is more'? We've no idea, but in this instance it rings true: 'Accident & Emergency' is a piece of pie without a succulent enough filling.
