Funeral For A Friend - Into Oblivion
More on: Funeral For A Friend

Label: Atlantic
Release Date: 07/05/07
Rating:

Seemingly ditching their black-haired, tight jeans-clad, eyeliner-toting roots, Funeral For A Friend have taken a more 'poppy' approach to their new single 'Into Oblivion'. It's still got their trademark 'emo-rock' edge, however it's now infused with a more Snow Patrol-esque sound which actually works very well.

The song starts with some rousing strings and soon breaks down into a heartfelt and powerful chorus. The musicianship on display is nothing spectacular, with fairly standard chord progression and drum-work, but the vocal work is impressive. However, considering these guys are Welsh, it's puzzling that the accent sounds American at times (particularly during the breakdown).

Overall, it's a fun little venture into oblivion and back (pun intended), with an infectious hook that'll please fans of pop-rock and 'emo' alike.
