Hailing from the small Norwegain town of Nesna, and now taking residency in Stockholm. Ida Maria (singer/songwriter and also the bands name) is another example of the amazing talent coming out of Scandinavia. The cold, dark nights of Sweden must really have an effect on people because like fellow acts as The Hives and Swedish darling Hakan Hellstrom, she is unbelievable live.
'Drive Away My Heart' is a song about wanting to dispose of your heart, so it can no longer be broken. An interesting topic for an upbeat indie pop song. Mixing sombre lyrics with jubilant melodies is an old art form that the likes of Morrissey have certainly flourished with.
Her vocals are rasp and soulful, backed by some dynamic drumming, and rollercoaster guitar melodies. The main problem is that on the highest point the tune comes to life, but with so many drops it does start to frustrate. This is why former single 'Oh My God' is still the definitive Ida Maria song. Tipped for great things in 2008, this may not be the best single, but is certainly a taste for the future. See them live for some high-flying rib cracking action.
