Danish sensations Alphabeat release their second UK single 'Fascination' (a major hit back home) - a master class in all things that go pop. Though fellow Danish pop stars from the past (Aqua, Whigfield) have focused more on the 'cheese' factor, Alphabeat are more into the tradition of the new wave 80's style, more David Bowie and The Human League than Buck's Fizz and Black Lace.
The single itself is based around a bassline straight from Bowie's classic 'Modern Love' with an 'out of sight' (replace with any other 80's cool word) keyboard motif. Lyrically there's some nonsense about easy living killing the young dudes in high boots, but as soon as the Duck Tales inspired chorus kicks in that's all forgotten about. There will not be many songs with a catchier chorus this year!
Sometimes it's okay to dress up in tight pink shorts and pretend to be George Michael, and this is definitely the song for that.
