Welsh rockers Funeral For A Friend have slipped under the radar a little in recent times, and after splitting ties with Atlantic Records and forming their own homemade label, there could be cause for concern regarding their longevity in this business. This double A-side however packs enough punch to allay those fears and suggest they have enough to see off all the naysayers.
'Beneath The Burning Tree' centres around a buzzing pop guitar riff, and sounds a little too happy for its own good; with enough choruses and catchy, plinky lead guitar, it ticks most of the emo/post hardcore boxes. 'Waterfront Dance Club' beefs it up a bit and opens with some head-banging, tension-building discordance before launching into a kinetic riff assault. It still has enough melody and hooks however to keep the interest of those less inclined towards distorted guitar battering. Matt Davies' voice grates a little over time however and the songs lack freshness, but overall this latest release is a solid offering.
