Is it really six albums and over ten years for The Dandy Warhols? After all those years still connected to that one song, it's amazing that they are still fighting on against the odds and the critics (though now on their own independent label).
'Mission Control' is the first track lifted from 'Earth To The Dandy Warhols', and rather than trying to release a mighty pop missile, to shoot at all the nah-sayers, they have decided - in their own charming way of course - to release a quite frankly bizarre single. Strongly influenced by the 80s, as always, 'Mission Control' is less Duran Duran, more Sisters Of Mercy, with extra camp. Courtney Taylor-Taylor has swapped his voice for an 80s cyborg, and borrowed a Welsh male choir to back him up. Add some electronic textures from Zia McCabe and this is the new sound of The Dandy Warhols.
Being on their own label and having their own studio means that they can do whatever they choose. Sometimes this is a god send, but more often it inspires a band to lose focus on what made them great. 'Mission Control' is interesting, but to a lot of Dandy fans it seems that a long time ago they used to be friends, but now...
