Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss A Beat

Ricky Wilson has sounded consistently bored since 'Employment', which is a shame as new single 'Never Miss A Beat' has the feel of early Chiefs, but is still lacking the spark that crashed them into the nation's consciousness after years of scuzzy US ubercoolness.

The socially tongue-in-cheek lyrics don't work with the dourness (we've all heard them by now: "what do you want for tea/I want crisps"), but putting aside what is cringe-inducing, underneath lies a great song. The Kaiser way of building up an pounding, driving tune works better here than on the dreary offerings from 'Yours Truly Angry Mob', and saves this track. Mark Ronson's production for new album 'Off With Their Heads' is looking promising - guitar-heavy, subtle hook-laden keys, plenty of layers without ever sounding cluttered.
